Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
broduced by Ferrari since 2004, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a large two-door coupé with a 2 + 2 seating arrangement. It was designed to replace the small Ferrari 456 M. Although designed by Pininfarina, the Ferrari 612 pays homage to Sergio Scaglietti , An Italian coachman who designed many popular Ferraris of the 50s and 60s, including the 250 GTO. What is more significant, is the 612 aluminum frame of all the space and the construction of the panel body - the first for a Ferrari V12. Compared to the 456 M salient, the new 612 Scaglietti weighs 132 ponds less, taking top of the road maintenance and handling capabilities. It can carry 4 passengers comfortably and still achieve the speed and curved faces that most sports cars can only dream of. It is considered to be the driving coupé among GT-oriented exotic cars like the Aston Martin Vanquish and the Bentley Continental
Ferrari had to work hard to meet the demands of its customers who like elegance, luxury, safety and performance as well. That's why the 612 aluminum is a combination of performance and comfort in the best traditions of a true Ferrari berlinetta.
The gloss and elegance of the cockpit finish are enhanced by the leather trim in the same color as the seats extended to the headlining and side panels that personalize the car.
The sumptuous MY 06 is equipped with a new radio-CD system with satellite navigation system, voice recognition system, MP3 player, Bluetooth and a Compact Flash memory card reader that allow the driver to store and play 4 GB of music.
The system is also integrated with a newly refined display in the instrument panel. To improve handling in confined spaces, rear parking sensors are also available as standard.
Design
Built entirely at home in Modena, Italy, Ferrari offers for the first time a 12-cylinder model with space frame chassis and aluminum body panels. The advantages of this construction method consists of a 60% increase in structural rigidity and a significant weight saving of 60 kg compared to the current GTA 456 M - despite the larger dimensions of the new car.
The optimally balanced weight distribution (46% front, 54% rear) is guaranteed by the engine mounted behind the front axle and the gearbox in the rear differential unit. The overall layout also allows for a lower center of gravity that benefits the dynamic behavior of the car. Improved performance-oriented handling by active damping and a new stability and traction control system make its first appearance on a Ferrari. The new Ferrari 612 is equipped with 18-inch diameter front wheels with 245/45 tires and 19-inch rear wheels with 285/40 tires.
The motor
The excellent valve of 12 cylinders, 48 is a product of the most advanced technology of Ferrari. The all-aluminum power unit has a compression ratio of 11.2: 1 and generates a maximum power of 540 hp at 7,250 rpm, with a torque of 434 foot-pounds at 5,250 rpm. The dry sump lubrication system features an oil and water pump in one unit with 2 reservoirs and a delivery pump, 2 oil filters and a dedicated oil cooler. Other features include steel cylinder linings, hydraulic tappets and variable intake manifolds with an additional central plenum that improves fuel and air swirling.
The massive 540 bhp at 7,250 rpm and 434 ft-lb at 5,250 rpm of torque allows the car to perform exceptionally well at low and medium engine speeds on each gear.
The modifications of the V12 have optimized its performance and fluid dynamics. The most important are intake ducts with separate cylinder bank ducts from the radiator grille that opens into the front bumper and exhaust port and system geometries and volumes that reduce back pressure. The electronic control of the motor is performed by a single Bosch Motronic ME7 CPU per cylinder bank that jointly controls the PFI multiplex injection system and the cable drive system. Four impact sensors are positioned on the motor block.
Transmission
What's new for the 612 is its redesigned six-speed manual shifting transmission that can be automatic as well. The transmission of the rear axle F1A puts the rear-mounted gearbox in the unit with the differential and the final bevel-type drive with limited slip differential. The combination of gearbox and transmission traWill aid the excellent weight distribution and dynamic balance of Scaglietti. The F1A is one of the sophisticated electro-hydraulic systems of new generation derived from the Formula 1 that Ferrari uses successfully in all its models of highway. The software that controls it is optimized for faster and more comfortable gearshift.
The versatile transmission offers the driver the possibility to choose the manual or automatic mode through a switch in the central tunnel. In Manual, the gears are changed using the blades mounted just behind the steering wheel while a computer controls the clutch. Automatically, the computer has full control over the transmission. In any of the two settings, the gear shift oscillates between comfortably fast and sporty, depending on the setting of the steering wheel mounted on the "Sport" button and the driver input. A smoother and faster gearshift is offered by the F1A than traditional manual gearboxes, thus improving comfort and increasing safety. The F1A also provides significantly improved performance and comfort. Chassis The 612 Scaglietti is equipped with a space frame structure whose structure consists of straight aluminum extrusion connected by molds acting as seals, while the aluminum sheet reinforces the structure. This light but rigid structure forms an exceptional platform that offers smooth handling, excellent dynamic response, road comfort and controlled interior noise. 2006 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti - image 98632 The chassis architecture includes 4 large castings in which all the mounting points of the suspension and steering are CNC machined. Two robust castings for A-pillars are integrated with the doors. The aluminum alloys that construct the vehicle are very ductile during the pressing and extrusion phases, to become then incredibly resistant and resistant once they have been subjected to a special heat treatment. In addition, each casting has different mechanical characteristics per area, resulting from a differential heat treatment. Suspensions The 612 Scaglietti suspension is advanced and offers innovative handling and control in line with the excellent 46% front / 54% rear weight distribution of the coupe.
The independent dampers and coil springs are located in two forged aluminum triangulones mounted on aluminum joints and rubber seals at the 4 corners. The anti-diving and anti-squat geometry is designed in the system. The adaptive calibration suspension system allows the driver to select "Normal" and "Sport" mode. The software integrated with the other electronic control system that controls the calibration of the shock absorbers, uses sensors to record the movements of the wheels and the body, adapting instantaneously the calibration of the shock absorbers to adapt to the requirements, depending on the surface of the Road and driving style. 2006 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti - image 98621 The 612 Scaglietti electronic stability and traction control system offers exceptional performance and safety engineering. The ABS and ASR functions control the directional dynamics of the car. The performance of the car is also provided by its Bosch 5.7 ABS braking system which responds especially and is resistant. Large diameter,
cross-drilled ventilated discs with four-piston calipers are driven through a double-diaphragm servo with integral pump. Asymmetrical cast aluminum wheels are an effective compromise between performance and weight reduction, providing the right balance of comfort and performance. The tire pressure monitoring system alerts the driver of changes in tire pressure across a screen. Design With its innovative design with a long wheelbase, rear design cabin with short protrusions and dynamic power, the 612 Scaglietti has the spirit of a sporty berlinetta and the dimensions and design of a luxurious, very spacious Grand Tourer. The vehicle features a large, sculpted body, aerodynamic long hood, strong lines and scalloped sides characteristic with reference to the iconic 375 MM built by Robert Rossellini as a gift to his wife Ingrid Bergman. 2006 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti - image 98635 The "four-seater" has been designed to offer ease of entry for rear-seat passengers to an exceptionally luxurious cabin that will accommodate 4 adults in comfort. The onboard comfort is enhanced for the driver by adopting the "new generation" of ergonomics for the binnacle instrument, mounted steering wheel and fascia mounted controls. The comfort of the passengers is guaranteed by the installation of a double zone air conditioner and a high-end Bose sound system, specifically designed to adapt to the unique acoustics of the leather and aluminum trimmed interior. Even the luggage compartment is larger and more accessible than the previous 4-seater Ferrari. Interior Although Ferrari often sacrifices
Air comfort in exchange for maximum performance, the 612 Scaglietti breaks with tradition as the most luxurious and cozy Ferrari in recent years. The interior of the car is elegant, the dominant materials are sewn leather and aluminum handmade. A wide range of other features offer driving pleasure and maximum comfort. The digital and analogue electro-fluorescent instrument panel, steering wheel-mounted controls at the driver's fingertips, two-zone climate control with center console aluminum controls and dashboard ventilation groups, Doors and the central tunnel allow the occupants to adjust the flow of air and desire
